This is an issue of major importance and one that many health professions programs are stressing through coursework and special programs. Adekemi Egunsola, Class of ’09, currently 2nd year at Emory University School of Medicine: Monday, November 29, 2010

Kemi graduated from Lafayette in 2009 with a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S. in Mathematics. She continued directly into medical school at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta (commonly ranked among the top 25 medical schools in the US).

“Research Associates Programs: Clinical Experience for the Pre-Health Professional Student”: Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Dr. Keith Bradley, MD is an emergency physician who directs the Research Associates Program at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport, CT. He will talk about their RA Program and similar programs around the country offered through the National Alliance of Research Programs (NARAP).
Research Associates (RAs) are college students and graduates who volunteer one 4-hour shift per week in the emergency department at participant enrollers and data collectors for clinical studies. Within the structure of research, RAs have meaningful interactions with hundreds of patients and visitors in the “safety net” of health care, emergency medicine. Tools, Trials Teamwork and Tears: Life in the World of a (Female) Brain Tumor Neurosurgeon: Friday, April 29, 2011

Dr. Susan Pannullo, MD is the Director of Neuro-Oncology and Neurosurgical Radiosurgery in the Department of Neurological Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College.
Dr. Pannullo will talk about life as a brain tumor neurosurgeon. As one of the nation’s few doctors trained in neurology, neurological surgery, and neuro-oncology, Dr. Pannullo is engaged in world-class research and treatment for cancer affecting the brain and spine. Her areas of particular expertise include treatment of benign and malignant brain tumors and stereotactic radio surgery. Dr. Pannullo is also known for her rare combination of research acumen and humanistic patient care. She is the founder of the Hope Brain Tumor Center, a global brain tumor information service providing consultation on a remote basis to brain tumor patients and their families throughout their treatment course.
