In order for any health professions school admission committee to fully consider your application, you must assume certain responsibilities in the process. Observance of these responsibilities will ensure both applicants and admission committees of an orderly and timely student selection process.
- Become familiar with and observe the application procedures at each school. Submit all application documents, including primary and secondary application forms, transcript(s), letters of recommendation, fees, etc. in a timely manner.
- Promptly notify your professional school application service (e.g., AMCAS or AACOMAS) and those health professions schools not participating in that application service of any change of address.
- Respond promptly to all invitations for an interview at a professional school.
- If you need to cancel or reschedule an interview promptly notify the school.
- Call them first, and follow up with a letter.
- If you are in need of financial aid, start the steps to determine eligibility as early as possible.
- File the appropriate “Need Analysis Forms” in January or February.
- Encourage your parents or guardians (if required) to file their income tax forms early.
- Fill out the Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms.
- The FAFSA is required for virtually all students seeking financial aid including the unsubsidized Stafford loan.
- If you remain under consideration for admission, keep the school(s) informed of the address and telephone number where you can be reached.
- If you are unavailable (e.g., foreign travel), you should instruct and grant authority to a parent or other individual to act on your behalf.
- When you make a final decision regarding where you will attend, promptly withdraw your application from all other schools.
